A riparian is a person owning land adjacent to streams, rivers, and inland lakes.

Michigan is reported to have lost 50% of its original wetlands.  Today, over 75% of Michigan’s wetlands are privately owned.  Wetlands are areas of land that are covered with water at least part of the year, and contain plants and animals adapted to these conditions.
