Information
On May 8, 2012, the City of Bloomfield Hills will be
holding a city election to fill two City Commission seats.
Important Information for Candidates
- Campaigning
- Please review the enclosed sign ordinance,
specifically with regard to political signs.
- State election Law prohibits campaigning within
100 feet from any doorway used by voters to enter
the building in which the polling place is located.
Campaigning includes: approaching voters to
encourage them to vote for or against a candidate or
ballot question; distributing any type of campaign
literature or write-in stickers; attempting to
collect petition signatures; requesting donations;
selling raffle tickets or engaging in similar
activities.
- The City Logo has copyright restrictions and MAY
NOT be used by candidates for public office.
- Nominating Petitions
- Candidate’s filings will be verified in the
order they are received. Candidates with
insufficient nominating petitions will be notified
immediately, in writing, stating the reason(s).
- Public Act 341 of 2002 changed the nominating
petition forms. DO NOT USE NON-PARTISAN PETITION
FORMS WITHOUT A REVISION DATE OF 12/02 OR LATER.
- Petition circulators MUST be a registered voter
in the State of Michigan.
- Before circulating a petition sheet, the
circulator MUST enter the county and the city of
circulation in the space provided at the top of the
sheet.
- ALL areas of the petition, EXCEPT for the
Signature of Circulator, must be completed prior to
obtaining any signatures.
- The circulator MUST complete the date the
certificate at the bottom of the sheet after
gathering the last signature (s)he intends to
collect on the sheet. Signatures on a petition sheet
which are dated AFTER the date on the circulator’s
certificate are invalid and shall not be counted.
- A petition sheet cannot be circulated by more
than one person.
- Persons signing petitions must be registered to
vote in the City of Bloomfield Hills and must fill
in all information requested on the petition.
- No person shall sign the petition of more than
two (2) persons for the office of City Commissioner.
Two (2) Commissioners are to be elected; therefore,
a registered voter may sign only two (2) nominating
petitions for Commissioners.
- Nominating petitions shall be open to the public
for inspection in the office of the City Clerk in
accordance with Michigan Election Law 168.555.

- Precinct 2: Congregational Church of Birmingham
– 1000 Cranbrook Road

City Candidates 2012 Filing Requirements
Nominations for the following City offices will be
accepted until Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. at
the City of Bloomfield Hills, City Clerk’s office at 45 East
Long Lake Rd., MI 48304 (248) 530-1403.
- City Commission 2 seats – 2 year terms expiring May
2014.
Qualifications – City Charter:
- A resident of the City of Bloomfield Hills for one
year immediately prior to election.
- A citizen of the United States and a registered
elector of the City.
What to File:
- Affidavit of Identity and:
- Non-Partisan City Nominating petitions containing
not less than 25 signatures and no more than 50
signatures from qualified and registered electors of the
City
- Candidate Name Pronunciation Request Form
When to File:
- Petition Filing Deadline is 4:00pm, Tuesday,
February 14, 2012.
Withdrawal Deadline:
- Petition Withdraw Deadline is 4:00pm, Friday,
February 17, 2012.
Campaign Finance Act:
- A candidate running for City Office is subject to
this Act’s filing requirements.
