The Bloomfield Hills Public Safety department is a great
place to work. Bloomfield Hills DPS has two entry level
positions; Telecommunications Specialists (Dispatch) and
Public Safety Officers.
Telecommunications Specialist
Telecommunications Specialists receive and record calls
for assistance, service and information, by telephone, radio
and computer. Quickly and efficiently dispatches Police,
Fire and Medical units to emergency and non-emergency
incidents. Monitors various radio frequencies to receive,
transmit and relay messages. Conducts record checks manually
and by computer inquiry. Maintains and updates various forms
of documentation such as incident logs. Are responsible for
monitoring prisoners in the holding cells via video link.
Perform other tasks as directed by Command Officers of the
Department.
Public Safety Officer
Public Safety Officers are sworn personnel certified by
the State of Michigan as police officers, firefighters and
medical first responders. PSO's enforce the laws of the
State of Michgan and City of Bloomfield Hills, conduct
traffic enforcement, respond to police, fire and medical
emergencies, take general calls for service, and complete a
variety of written and computerized reports. Candidates for
the position of PSO must be in good physical condition and
have or be able to complete both the Basic Police Training
and Basic Fire Training programs as mandated by the State of
Michigan.
