Planning Commission meets the second Tuesday of each month at 4:00pm.

LSL Planning, Inc.Although the City of Bloomfield Hills does not have an in-house Planning and Zoning Department, it is still well provided for through its contract with the consulting firm of LSL Planning, Inc. Devoted exclusively to the practice of community planning, LSL’s team of dedicated professionals offers guidance to many communities, agencies, institutions and select developers. LSL has been Bloomfield Hills’ planning and zoning consultant since 2004 and provides the following services for the City:

  • Review of residential building plans for zoning related issues, including both new construction and expansion of existing dwellings.
  • Review of applications and requests before the Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals, including such items as site plans and variances.
  • Attend monthly meetings of the Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, and City Commission (as needed).
  • Prepare amendments to the City Zoning Code.
  • Develop the City’s Master Plan.
  • Conduct training seminars for the City’s Boards, Commissions and staff.
  • Conduct monthly office hours at City Hall to help citizens and project teams with planning and zoning related matters.

Submission to Planning Commission and City Commission

In order to be considered for the agenda, a petitioner must submit (4) complete sets (full size building plans) of the request to City Hall.  In addition, the application fe of $500, plus the appropriate escrow amount (see attached exhibits) must be paid at the time the application is submitted.

After you are notified of your approved agenda date, you will be required to submit an additional (21) sets of the submittal packet (4 - full size building plans 17 - 11x17 building plans). Revisions or additions to plans will not be accepted after this deadline.

Placement on the agenda of the Planning Commission is at the discretion of the City Manager.  Any Planning Commission requests submitted before the deadline does not guarantee a placement on the agenda.

The Zoning Board of Appeals meets the third Tuesday of each month at 4:00pm (with a few exceptions because of holidays) in the City Commission Room at 45 East Long Lake Road.
